The Popular Show Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
